Season your Teppan griddle
What you need
Before you start your Teppan griddle experience, please make sure you have all the items and supplies you need:
• Bucket full of water
• Teppan griddle seasoning and cast iron regulator (or check our other suggestions for item 3)
• Heat-resistant gloves or pliers
• Paper towel
• Salt
• Soap powder
• Stick
#1 Sparkling Soapy Cleanse
Your Teppan griddle has just been shipped in and you are ready to make great dishes. But before you grill the steak, you have to wipe it clean with soap. This is just to remove dust or debris during manufacturing and transportation.
It's easy to clean up this baby. Fill the bucket with water and add a little soap. Gently pour soapy water on the griddle and rinse with clean water.
#2 Pre-heat & make it dark!
The pan in your new Teppan griddle is squeaky clean, it's time to preheat and darken! Here, we transformed the top of the griddle into a blackened, anti-stick cooking surface. Therefore, turn the burner to the maximum to let the heat work. After 10-15 minutes, you will notice that the top of the Teppan griddle will start to turn brown. Once you see the color change, turn off the burner and proceed to the next step.
#3 Dab it with oil
When you season the griddle, you create a natural anti-stick surface that is very durable. In fact, what you do is burn off the organic compounds in the oil, leaving behind a polymer to combine with your Teppan griddle plate. One secret to remember is that each garment uses only a thin layer of oil. Applying a thick layer of oil during the seasoning process will cause later crumbs and a sticky paste on your Teppan griddle plate.
We strongly recommend you to use Teppan griddle seasoning and cast iron conditioner (available in the store or on our website). If you don't have seasoning for a Teppan griddle, other regular cooking oils will work. So now you are asking yourself "If other oils can work, why do you recommend Teppan griddle seasoning"? Our experience shows that our proprietary blending process is incredibly good, providing excellent protection for your initial seasoning and between uses. Long-term protection is particularly important, we also develop our griddle seasonings to ensure that you protect your investment and have a good experience in frying pans for a long time.
Therefore, do not emphasize what other types of oils are used. Choose any of these oils, just remember "thin, multiple layers".
• Teppan griddle seasoning and cast iron regulator (recommended)
• Rapeseed oil
• Linseed oil
• Vegetable oil
• Shorten
• Olive oil
Use a paper towel to spread the oil evenly on the surface. Use pliers or heat-resistant gloves to avoid scalding yourself. Make sure there are no thick oil pits or dry spots. Use paper towels as if you were going to wipe off the oil from the surface of the Teppan griddle. Your oil layer should be so thin.
#4 Fire it back up!
Now, turn the heat up and sit and look at the griddle plate.
Thick smoke will come out of the Teppan griddle. This is the so-called "smoke point" and it takes about 30 minutes for your Teppan griddle to get there. So relax, sit down and watch the smoke fly by. When all the smoke is gone, you can turn off the griddle.
#5 Time for some extra rounds!
Just like in a boxing ring, it is difficult to beat an opponent in the first round. The same situation applies to Teppan griddle and the tension between oil and steel. Not even one bullet. To make your meals worthy of the best non-stick and delicious surface, you must repeat the condiments. So be patient and make it valuable. Pick up your oil again, tap it on the Teppan griddle, and watch the hot smoke festival again. You should stop when the griddle plate is dark brown, which takes about 2 to 3 times.
#6 Final touches
Once you have finished 3-4 rounds of initial seasoning, let your Teppan griddle cool slightly and wipe with the last layer of Teppan griddle seasoning and cast iron conditioner or Teppan griddle nonstick griddle spray. This will prevent oxidation of the bakeware. Now you make and your Teppan griddle is freshly seasoned! Make sure your Teppan griddle lid can withstand the test of time. Weather resistance, no rust.
