Large Teppanyaki Grill Table | Japanese Tabletop Grills Buyer's Guide

Here are some features of your grill that you need to consider before making a purchase.

Grilling Surface Area

Do you only cook for yourself or for up to three people? Then a small hibachi grill will do just fine, you don't need a huge cooking surface.

But if you have a large family or like to entertain at home, look for a medium or large teppanyaki grill table.

In Japan, you'll find many small hibachi grills for singles.

Then, the next size is 2-3 people, and the largest is 5 people and above. But you can always cook in batches, so size shouldn't be a huge issue.

Weight of the grill

The idea behind a tabletop grill is that it should be portable. Therefore, you need a lightweight unit.

Some ceramic tahini grills are a bit heavy, and they are sensitive to cracking. Therefore, you need to be more careful when moving them.

But the average grill is pretty light (less than 20 pounds), so you can handle it with ease.

Wattage (for electric cookers)

Wattage simply refers to the power of the electric grill. Therefore, the higher the wattage, the more powerful the grill and the more heat it will generate.

1300 watts is the ideal wattage, but all electric grills or teppanyaki are designed to cook a variety of foods.

Material

Japanese grills are made from a variety of materials, but they are all good heat conductors.

Many traditional konro or shirichin grills are made of ceramic material or diatomaceous earth. This is a sensitive material and is more prone to cracking.

Most Hitachi grills are made of cast iron with stainless steel or aluminum grills. If the grill body is made of aluminum or stainless steel, it is lighter and more portable.

The grill is usually a mesh. Cast iron grills are extremely durable and a great investment.
